Last week I gave a speech to members of the CPA in Cork about the importance of personal branding. It’s a concept that makes most of us squirm (myself included) but these days, even if you don’t want to call it that, most of us do manage our own brand through various platforms.
It was one of the most difficult talks I’ve ever written, because I had never really broken down the notion of a personal brand or what my own is. In some ways it was a great thing to reflect on and I would encourage everyone to do it because you maybe do get a chance to look critically at what you put out there. In the end, I came up with a vision of a three-legged stool that your brand rests on. The legs are different, but the first and most important is your character, the second is your professional reputation and the third, your image. Not everyone would probably agree, but that’s how it seems to me. I’d be interested in hearing what you think yourself?
